In 2019 the Global Campus of Human Rights was entrusted by the European Commission - Directorate General International Cooperation and Development (DG DEVCO) to lead a new capacity building project denominated “Development of human rights education and research at the Universidade Nacional Timor Lorosa'e”.

The project is funded by the European Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights (EIDHR) through the Country Based Support Schemes (CBSS) with 425,684€ and is implemented in Dili, together with the Delegation of the EU in Timor Leste.

The project aims at contributing to the promotion of human rights, democracy and development in Timor-Leste by establishing a Human Rights Centre within the Faculty of Social Sciences of UNTL in Dili. The Centre will engage in training, international networking and research activities, and is envisaged to prospectively become an active partner within the Global Campus Asia-Pacific network led by the Mahidol University, Thailand.

The length of the project is 23 months and will be completed by November 2020.
