Appointment of Prof. Lemmens as Judge to the European Court of Human Rights

The EIUC is proud that Prof. Paul Lemmens, one of the national directors of the European Master’s Programme in Human Rights and Democratisation (E.MA) has been elected as Judge to the European Court of Human Rights in respect of Belgium. He is currently a member of the Council of State, as judge at the European Court of Human Rights in respect of Belgium. His nine-year term of office will begin on 12 September 2012.
Judges are elected by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) from a list of three candidates nominated by each state which has ratified the European Convention on Human Rights.

Prof. Lemmens is the E.MA National Director for Belgium representing the Catholic University Leuven. He is an estimated academic both by his colleagues of the EIUC Governing Bodies and by the students of the E.MA Programme that particularly appreciate also his Moot Court organised every year within the week on Civil and Political Rights.
