Dr. Angela Melchiorre renews collaboration with HREA for e-learning course on the Right to Education
In February and March 2012 Dr. Angela Melchiorre, E.MA Programme Director, will once again teach the e-learning course on the Right to Education offered by Human Rights Education Associates (HREA) in collaboration with The Right to Education Project.
The purpose of this course - says Dr. Melchiorre - is to introduce staff of development agencies, representatives of inter-governmental and non-governmental organisations, activists and educationalists to critical concepts and issues necessary to develop more articulated and effective strategies and policies in the field of education as a human right.
The course applies a human rights advocacy methodology whereby participants learn to work at the level of: substance (being aware of the content and meaning of the right to education in order to identify violations); structure (identifying duty-bearers and using legal instruments to encourage accountability); society (identifying actions and behavioural/value changes in order to enhance participation of rights-holders).
This combination of academic knowledge and policy-oriented practice is very similar to the approach of the E.MA Programme and EIUC’s activities - concludes Prof. Benoit-Rohmer, EIUC Secretary General - therefore we welcome this initiative and hope to reinforce this collaboration in the future.
Dr. Angela Melchiorre is a member of the Advisory Panel of The Right to Education Project and has been the instructor for this e-learning course since 2010. The deadline for applying is 1 December 2011. For more information please visit this page.
