EIUC 2nd SUMMER SCHOOL ON CINEMA & HUMAN RIGHTS

The second EIUC Summer School on Cinema and Human Rights  was officially opened on 24 August 2006 by Dr. George Ulrich, EIUC Secretary General;Mr Nick Danziger, Programme Director of the Summer School. The President of the Academic Committee Prof. William Schabas (Director of the Irish Centre for Human Rights, Galway), the Associate Programme Director Claudia Modonesi (President of Human Rights Culture, Rome), and Prof. Dr. Carmen Márquez Carrasco, Programme Director of the European Master’s Programme in Human Rights and Democratisation (E.MA) equally welcomed the 21 international students participating in the EIUC Summer School 2006. The School will take place from 24 August until 13 September 2006 in Venice.

Organisation
The Summer School is organised by EIUC with the collaboration of the Venice Film Festival and the sponsorship of UNESCO. The Programme Director of the School is photographer and documentary-maker Nick Danziger.

Objective
The objective of the School is to reflect on the use of cinema as an instrument for enhancing human rights awareness.

Participants
The School seeks to involve 25 participants among human rights practitioners, film makers and producers, and human rights and film students.

Programme
Activities will include lectures, discussions, workshops, screenings of films at the 2006 Venice Film Festival and the development of individual projects.
