Global Campus of Human Rights statement on Nagorno-Karabakh

As the largest global network of universities involved in post-graduate human rights education, the Global Campus of Human Rights expresses its concern about the armed conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia relating to Nagorno-Karabakh. This conflict might easily escalate into a full-scale armed conflict with the involvement of various regional powers. Such conflict causes most severe suffering to the civilian population and might have a direct impact on the academic community, including the staff, students and alumni from different countries of the region who participate in the Master’s Programme in Human Rights and Democratisation in the Caucasus (CES).

Since the State University of Yerevan is the centre of the CES Programme, one of our seven regional Master’s programmes, we support all efforts by the United Nations, the OSCE Minsk Group, the European Court of Human Rights and other stakeholders aimed at de-escalating the conflict and resuming negotiations with the goal of reaching a long-term peaceful solution for the region.
