15/7/2011: Signature of the Memorandum of Understanding for the Human Rights Village
The date of 15 July 2011 will be remembered in the Venetian and European history for the signature of the Memorandum of Understanding between the City of Venice and the European Inter-University Centre for Human Rights and Democratisation (EIUC) for the creation of the Human Rights Village.
Strong of the experience and the network of international experts in the field of human rights developed by EIUC and following the tradition of the City of Venice to this cause, the “Human Rights Village” (HRV) aims at becoming the Centre of Excellence in the world for an holistic model of teaching, training, research, advocacy, counselling, advice in human rights, democratisation, peace, justice, democracy, sustainable development as well as other interrelated issues.

The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by the Mayor of Venice, Prof. Giorgio Orsoni, and EIUC President, Prof. Horst Fischer, in Sala del Piovego of Palazzo Ducale in Venice.
Also attending were Véronique Arnault (Director for Human Rights and Democracy, EU External Action Service), Aristotelis Bouratsis (Director of DEVCO.D "Human and Society Development", European Union) and professors of the EIUC participating universities.
