18 - 21 April 2012: Incroci di Civiltà in Venice - Around the World in 24 Writers and 17 Countries

EIUC is one of the first institutions which sponsors and cooperates with Incroci di Civiltà since its launch. Last 18 April the neuroscientist and Portuguese writer Antonio Damasio was given the privilege to open the 2012 edition of this event in the Scuola Grande di San Rocco in Venice.

This 4-days famous literary festival gathered 24 writers from 17 countries who talked about their works, cultures and experiences with scholars, journalists and common readers.

On Friday 20 April Prof. Fabrizio Marrella, Dean of the Human Rights Village managed by EIUC, introduced the morning session devoted to two authors Maaza Mengiste and Hisham Matar who presented their books dealing with the new developments of democracy in Africa.

The parquet of international personalities of literature and culture from around the world participating this year were: Ghada Abdel Aal, Ariane Ascaride, Alicia Giménez-Bartlett, Roberto Calasso, Andrea Cavazzuti, Antonio Damasio, William Dalrymple, Wim Emmerik, Per Olov Enquist, Robert Guédiguian, Howard Jacobson, Alain Mabanckou, Hisham Matar, Maaza Mengiste, Giselle Meyer, Malika Mokeddem, Andrea Molesini, Cees Nooteboom, Steve Sem-Sandberg, Alawiya Sobh, Vladimir Sorokin, Santino Spinelli, Juan Villoro, and Xu Xing .
