19 - 21 October 2011: E.MA/EIUC at Biennale Sessions

E.MA/EIUC at Biennale Sessions

For the first time in its long history, the European Master’s Degree in Human Rights and Democratisation (E.MA) managed by EIUC included a study visit to the Venice Biennale as part of the teaching programme 2011/2012. The initiative was part of the Biennale Sessions, a project designed specifically for universities and academic institutions.

Taking inspiration from the title and main themes of the 54th International Art Exhibition, E.MA students were encouraged to look at the works in display through the lens of human rights and concepts of nation, identity and community. In the final workshop they discussed their impressions, attempted to identify a red thread linking these human rights concepts to some selected works of art, and drew conclusions on the application of human rights in art and vice-versa.

During the visits they were accompanied by 2 lecturers and other members of the E.MA Team who also facilitated discussions and preparation for the final workshop.

The schedule was as follows:

Wednesday 19 October 2011: 16.30-18.00 visit
Thursday 20 October 2011: 14.30-18.00 visit
Friday 21 October 2011: 11.45-12.45 class work in preparation to workshop (@EIUC); 15.00-16.30 Workshop
