Mr. Alan Desmond is the E.MA Fellow specialising in International Law for the academic year 2013/2014
The E.MA Team is pleased to be joined by Mr. Alan Desmond, the E.MA Fellow specialising in International Law for the academic year 2013/2014. In this role Alan will liaise with E.MA Professors and students and teach Rolling Seminars and Legal Support classes. Alan is currently completing his PhD in University College Cork (UCC), Ireland. His doctoral research, funded by the Faculty of Law, UCC and the Irish Research Council, investigates the situations in which irregular migrants in the EU may have a right to a legal status. During the course of his PhD Alan has been a Visiting Researcher at Warsaw University, Harvard Law School and UCLA School of Law and undertook an internship with the Brussels-based NGO, PICUM (Platform for International Cooperation on Undocumented Migrants). His primary research and teaching interests lie in the fields of EU law, international law and the ethics of immigration. Before embarking on his doctoral studies, Alan taught Irish in Poland at the Catholic University of Lublin and Adam Mickiewicz University. He has also written a number of award-winning Irish language books.
