Ms Kyung-Wha KANG, UN Deputy High Commissioner for HR at the EIUC/E.MA Ceremony

The solemn Ceremony for the Awarding of Diplomas to the Master’s students of the academic year 2010/2011 and for the official opening of the academic year 2011/2012 gathered more than 500 persons. The Ceremony was held in the beautiful Scuola Grande di San Rocco in Venice on Sunday 25 September 2011 and was hosted by Cà Foscari University of Venice and Arciconfraternita di San Rocco.

Welcome messages were delivered by:

• Prof. Dr. Horst FISCHER, EIUC President,
• Prof. Agostino CORTESI, Pro Rector, Cà Foscari University of Venice,
• Vicar Demetrio SONAGLIONI, Arciconfraternita di San Rocco,
• the representatives of local authorities: Mr. Pier Francesco GHETTI, Councillor, Municipality of Venice; Mr. Raffaele SPERANZON, Councillor, Province of Venice.

The highlights of the ceremony were:

• the keynote speeches by Ms Kyung-Wha KANG, UN Deputy High Commissioner for Human Rights; Mr. Charles-Michel GEURTS, Alternate COHOM Chair / Deputy Head of Human Rights Policy Instruments Division, European External Action Service; and Mr. Jean-Louis VILLE, Head of Unit, DG DEVCO, European Commission;
• the enthousiastic address by the student representatives 2010/2011, Iune BARAVALLE and Pieter-Jan HAMELS;
• the awarding of the Joint Diploma of European Master’s in Human Rights and Democratisation to the laureates – coming from 33 countries – of the 2010/2011 course;
• the awarding of the E.MA Internships to the 15 best graduates 2010/2011 and of the E.MA Awarded Theses to be published online;
• the awarding of the E.MA Photo Exhibition;
• the welcoming of the new E.MA Programme Director, Dr. Angela Melchiorre ;
• the opening of the E.MA academic year 2011/2012 and welcome of the 90 new students coming from all of Europe and abroad.
