Round table on Business and human rights in times of global financial crisis

A round table on Business and human rights in times of global financial crisis: the impact on social rights closed the EIUC PHD seminar on ‘Human Rights and Business in Times of Global Financial Crisis’ organised by Prof. Fabrizio Marrella, E.MA Programme Director (EIUC). The round table was co-organised by EIUC and Cà Foscari University of Venice and was held in its Aula Magna. One rapporteur from the PhD students, Mr. Nicolas Hachez, was given the opportunity to share the outcomes of the seminar in the round table.

After the welcome addresses by Prof. Florence Benoit-Rohmer (EIUC Secretary General) and Prf. Antonella Basso (Dean of the Faculty of Economics, Cà Foscari University of Venice), the main speakers to the debate were: Prof. Carlo Carraro, Prof. Fabrizio Marrella and Prof. Adalberto Perulli (Cà Foscari University of Venice), Prof. Antoine Lyon Caen (Université Paris /EHESS), Dr. Radu Mares (University of Lund), and Senator Prof. Tiziano Treu (Catholic University of Milan).

The President of GEOX, Mr. Mario Moretti Polegato, shared his conclusions on this and underlined the importance of research and innovation and the subsequent collaboration between universities and companies in order to get out of the crisis.

Prof. Adalberto Perulli and Prof. Fabrizio Marrella of Cà Foscari University Venice presented the "Manifesto di Venezia per la regolazione della globalizzazione economica" . This document, opened to signature, is addressed to Governments, IGOs, NGOs and civil society, and contains six principles on how economic globalisation may work in conformity with human rights principles.  Several eminent Colleagues are signing the Manifesto. All Colleagues and interested parties both from EIUC and outside EIUC are invited to sign on to the Manifesto as well. The EIUC Secretary General, Prof. Florence Benoit-Rohmer, expressed her satisfaction about the results achieved in this high level round table. She added that such an event further strengthens the relations between EIUC and the Cà Foscari University of Venice.
