Seminars & Training courses

Throughout the year, EIUC organises seminars and training courses in the field of human rights and democratisation for officials of European institutions and other international entities, Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the EU Member States, NGOs, etc.

  • Training Course on Promotion of Human Rights in the UN Framework (EIUC specialized training course for EU officials, 16-19 October 2006);
  • Seminar for Iraqi officials on Practical Federalism in Iraq (organised in cooperation with No Peace Without Justice (NPWJ) and the International Alliance for Justice (AIJ, Iraq), with the support of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 18-26 July 2006);
  • Justice Rapid Response Conference (organised in cooperation with No Peace Without Justice, NPWJ, 15-17 June 2006):
  • Law Seminar, Summer school organised by the University of Vienna (6–10 June 2006):
  • Human Rights Training Course for Chinese Functionaries, organised around three topics: Human Rights Law: Purposes, Principles and Application; Sanctions & Remedies; Mechanisms of the Human Rights Regime, (22-26 November 2004). This one-week Human Rights Training Course for Chinese Functionaries, paid by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was organised by EIUC. Dr. Joshua Castellino of the National University of Ireland, Galway, acted as primary academic responsible of the course in close cooperation with EIUC Secretary General Dr. George Ulrich, and additional facilitators included: Prof. Wolfgang Benedek (University of Graz), Prof. Erik Claes (Catholic University of Leuven), Prof. Koen De Feyter (E.MA Academic Coordinator), Dr. Jeremie Gilbert (European Master’s Programme in Human Rights and Democratisation), Ms Sophie Lefrançois (ILO Training Officer), Dr. Miko Lempinen (Åbo Akademi University), Dr. Ingrid Nifosi (European Master’s Programme in Human Rights and Democratisation), and Prof. Adalberto Perulli (Ca’ Foscari University of Venice);
  • Training Course on Democratisation and Good Governance (EIUC specialized training course for EU officials, 5-8 October 2004). Professor Hans Giessmann and Dr. Bernt Berger of the University of Hamburg assumed primary responsibility for the academic preparation of the course, which in addition included as facilitators Dr. Margaret Johannsen (University of Hamburg); Ms Karin Lukas (University of Vienna); Ms Martha Gutierrez (GTZ); Dr. Frank Evers (University of Hamburg); and Ms Barbara Brandtner (European Commission);
  • Human Rights and Development (EIUC specialised training course for EU officials, 8-11 December 2003);
  • Practical Long-term Observation of Elections and Project Management (training modules for E.MA students, 4-5 December 2003).
