The University of Banja Luka becomes a partner of the Global Campus South East Europe/ERMA

On 24 May, at the Conference Hall of the Faculty of Law of the University of Banja Luka, took place the presentation of the Global Campus South East Europe (GC SEE) and its core activity: the European Regional Master Programme in Democracy and Human Rights in South East Europe (ERMA). The double degree programme is coordinated by the Universities of Sarajevo and Bologna, and co-financed since 2000/01 by the EU and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Italy, via the Italian Cooperation Agency and the Embassy of Italy in Sarajevo.

 

The event represented the occasion to announce a new cooperation agreement between the GC SEE/ERMA and the University of Banja Luka, allowing for its Faculties of Law and Political Sciences to join the ERMA regional university consortium, hence becoming members of the Global Campus of Human Rights. This is a remarkable achievement for the development of human rights higer education in Bosnia and Herzegovina as well as for the whole Balkan region, which was warmly welcomed by the EU and the Italian Government.

 

The meeting saw the participation of Prof. Željko Mirjanić, Dean of the Faculty of Law, Prof. Luka Zdravko Zlokapa, Dean of the Faculty of Political Sciences, the GC/ERMA coordinators, Mariana Hadzijusufović (CIS/University of Sarajevo) and Adriano Remiddi (IECOB/University of Bologna) and was attended also by the H. E. the Ambassador of Italy Nicola Minasi and Ms. Viara Valtchanova, Socio-economic Adviser at the Delegation of the EU in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Banja Luka Office.

 

During the second part of the event it took place a discussion about the importance of human rights education at local and regional level, with the participation of ERMA alumni Ivan Barbalić and Bojana Mikanović, moderated by Igor Milinković, Vice Dean for Scientific Research at the Faculty of Law.

 

The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding with the University of Banja Luka is the last of a series of agreements that GC SEE/ERMA finalizes during the current academic year and that involved also the Law Faculties of the University of Prishtina (Kosovo) and the SsCyril and Methodius University in Skopje, as part of the outreach strategy of the GC SEE/ERMA in the Balkan region.
