Truth, Justice and Memory for Serious Human Rights Violations
On 2-3 July 2014 the International Centre for Political Studies (CIEP) of the University of San Martín (UNSAM) organised a conference in Buenos Aires with the participation and support of the Latin American Network for Human Rights and Democratisation (REDALDH), EIUC and the Global Campus of Human Rights in order to exchange ideas and experiences relating to truth, justice and memory for serious of human rights violations.
The panelists included representatives from EIUC, and the Asia-Pacific ERMA Programmes, as well as human rights experts from inter-governmental organizations and prestigious NGOs: Jorge Taiana (CIEP-UNSAM), Carlos Ruta (UNSAM), Kalliope Agapiou-Josephides (Vice President of EIUC), Amerigo Incalcaterra (Regional Representative of the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights), Julissa Mantilla (Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Peru and UNIFEM-Colombia), Lorena Balardini (CELS), Hans-Joachim Heintze (Global Campus, ERMA), Olesia Otradnova (Global Campus, Eastern Partnership - Ukraine), Victor Abramovich (MERCOSUR Institute on Human Rights Public Policies), Pratubjit Neelapaijit (Global Campus, Asia Pacific Program -Thailand), Roberta Baggio (Global Campus, Lat.Ma - Amnesty Commission of Brazil), Mónica Pinto (Dean of the UBA Law School and former UN Rapporteur for Guatemala and Chad), Francisco Soberon (APRODHE - Peru) and Frank LaRue (UN Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Expression).
The attendants included former Spanish Judge Baltasar Garzon; the National Public Defender of Argentina, Stella Maris Martínez; the former President of the Federal Criminal Court that tried the Junta Commanders in Argentina, Leon Arslanian; as well as experts from various academic institutions, intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations, alumni and students from the Lat.Ma Programme.
