EIUC (Venice) welcomes the first edition of the Global Classroom

With the support of the European Union EIUC developed the setting up of the Global Campus of Master’s Programmes and Diplomas in Human Rights and Democratisation (GC), an outifit  integrating the management of six Regional Master’s Programmes located in five continents.

“The aim of the GC is to educate a new generation of human rights professionals in a global and integrated framework, who are able to meet challenges which are informed by universal values and standards, European human rights policies and regional approaches to human rights, and aimed at strengthening the resilience of democracies and democratic movements on all continents” (art. 2.1 Memorandum of Understanding of the GC). In this framework the Global Classroom represents one of the tools EIUC developed to strengthen the collaboration and deepen the integration among the different Master's Programmes.

The Global Classroom targets indeed the necessity of fostering the interactions among students of the different programmes, by organizing dedicated activities and providing a virtual environment, a forum of discussion and additional tools of academic interaction. By doing so the Global Classroom intends to develop a more integrated form of academic coordination across the different curricula of the Programmes, in line with the guiding principles and fundamental values of the Global Campus.

The first edition of the Global Classroom will take place at EIUC premises from the 29th of April to the 3rd of May 2013 and will see the participation of 18 students from 5 different continents and 17 different nationalities and professors from all programmes involved. The attendants will present and discuss the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and their prospects in the post-2015 era and analyze the impact of these developments in the field of human rights in the different regions and at UN level. Students will have the opportunity to follow lectures held by internationally recognised experts in the field of human rights belonging to GC’s partner universities and other organisations that support EIUC projects and endeavors. The UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food, Prof. Olivier De Schutter, will open the Classroom with a keynote speech on April 29^thwith the lecture "The role of human rights in the discussion on post-global development goals".
